According to the latest analysis, Taiwan, mainland China, and Vietnam offer the most competitive data center construction costs across the Asia-Pacific region.

For mid-specification builds, costs stand at $6.5 million per MW in Taiwan, $7.1 million in mainland China, and $7.2 million in Vietnam.

Sharp Cost Disparities in the Region

In stark contrast, Japan leads with the highest mid-range costs at $16 million per MW, followed by Singapore at $14.4 million per MW and South Korea at $10.6 million.

Historically, Asia-Pacific data center capacity has surged, led by mainland China's 4,694 MW operational and 2,030 MW under development.

Looking toward 2030 targets, grid saturation in hubs like Tokyo, Sydney, and Taipei creates major hurdles for new projects.

AI workloads are pushing rack power densities beyond 140 kW, splitting operators between advanced liquid cooling and traditional air-cooled systems.

Hong Kong-based Accelerated Infrastructure Capital exemplifies the trend, investing $2.1 billion in a massive AI data center in Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City.
