AIXTRON to Invest €40 Million in New Semiconductor Factory in Malaysia's Penang Region

German semiconductor equipment leader AIXTRON has unveiled plans to build a new manufacturing facility in Malaysia.

The project in the Penang region will involve an investment of €40 million ($46 million).

Construction Timeline and Launch

Capital expenditures for the factory are set for the second half of 2026 and the first half of 2027.

Operations are slated to begin in spring 2027, with initial shipments expected in the second half of the year.

Facility Capabilities and Strategic Goals

The site will house assembly and testing operations, engineering support, and local purchasing functions.

It will produce select AIXTRON products in 100/150/200 mm formats.

As a premier supplier of deposition equipment for compound semiconductors, AIXTRON seeks to capitalize on Southeast Asia's rapidly expanding semiconductor ecosystem.

CEO Felix Grawert emphasized that the Malaysian plant complements facilities in Germany and the UK, enhancing supply chain access without impacting European jobs.

Malaysia's Penang has long been a hub for electronics manufacturing, drawing major global players to its skilled workforce and infrastructure.

This investment aligns with global semiconductor recovery trends, fueled by surging AI and high-performance computing demands.
