Malaysia's unity government under Anwar Ibrahim faces growing strains as Barisan Nasional has signaled it will exit the coalition once parliament dissolves ahead of the next general election by 2028. Without a broad coalition holding things together, the country could see more fragmented results or fresh alliances forming between parties like BN and Perikatan Nasional. If Zahid Hamidi steps into the prime minister role through such a pact, it might strengthen Malay-centric policies but risk instability from competing interests within the new setup. Business and education sectors would likely watch for policy continuity on international ties and reforms. Overall, the coming period points to ongoing negotiations rather than a sudden shift to single-party rule.

Malaysia's unity coalition government will likely stay together until the next election in 2028.

  • The current group led by Anwar has a strong majority in parliament.
  • Barisan Nasional says it will leave the coalition after parliament ends.
  • If Zahid becomes prime minister in a new group, one example is a possible alliance with other Malay parties that wins seats and picks him to lead.

Ignore daily fights and watch the next big vote.

Coalitions spread the decisions across groups just like you source parts from different places. One group slow on delivery does not halt everything. The others keep the flow going through the year. Losing that setup means one decision maker can alter all plans and make lead times longer for everyone.

You should keep an eye on how things move and reorder early when you spot any new delay ahead.
