Vietnam's VNU Hanoi Fast-Tracks $70M Chip Lab as Intel Hands Over Key Equipment

Vietnam National University Hanoi (VNU Hanoi) is accelerating construction of its $70 million national semiconductor laboratory.

Intel and Intel Products Vietnam recently transferred 31 chip assembly and testing machines to VNU Hanoi and Saigon Hi-Tech Park, marking Vietnam's first repurposing of such gear for education.

Vietnam's Semiconductor Push

The Vietnamese government seeks to train 50,000 semiconductor professionals by 2030 to build a robust industry.

Currently, Vietnam boasts around 15,000 engineers, with numbers in integrated circuit design firms rising from 40 to 60 in two years.

Packaging, testing, and manufacturing companies have also doubled to 15 in the same period.

Intel's Longstanding Commitment

Over 20 years, Intel has invested $1.5 billion in Vietnam and exported chips worth over $110 billion.

The company is now shifting data center chip production lines from Costa Rica to Saigon Hi-Tech Park.
