Vietnam's premier telecommunications provider, Viettel, plans to invest $152 million to expand 5G coverage to every resident in Ho Chi Minh City.
The VND4,000 billion initiative, slated for rollout this year, builds on the company's dominant position in the nation's telecom sector.
Viettel's 10-Year Strategic Alliance with Ho Chi Minh City
This investment forms part of a comprehensive 10-year collaboration between Viettel and the Ho Chi Minh City authority from 2026 to 2035.
The partnership aims to transform the city into a leading regional financial center through advanced digital infrastructure.
Viettel will serve as a key strategic partner in digitalization, smart city development, logistics, financial infrastructure, and science-technology innovation.
Leveraging Proven Telecom Success
Building on its robust foundation, Viettel already provides 99.4% 4G coverage across Ho Chi Minh City with 9,300 stations.
The company recently invested VND10,000 billion in a massive 140-MW data center, one of Southeast Asia's largest, underscoring its commitment to infrastructure.
In 2025, Viettel achieved a pre-tax profit of VND56,800 billion on revenues exceeding VND200,400 billion.
Impacts and Future Digital Transformation
This 5G expansion promises to revolutionize connectivity, enabling faster internet, IoT applications, and enhanced smart city services for millions.
By fostering high-tech talent training and innovation, the project will drive economic growth and position Vietnam as a Southeast Asian tech hub.
Complementing these efforts, Viettel is breaking ground on Vietnam's first semiconductor chip fabrication plant, signaling a bold push into high-tech manufacturing.
