Vietnam Emerges as Prime UAV Manufacturing Hub Thanks to Robust Supply Chain: Minister

Vietnam Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Manh Hung has declared that the country is poised to become a global UAV manufacturing powerhouse.

He highlighted Vietnam's integration into the East Asian supply chain alongside China, Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea as a key advantage for producing essential components like chips, cameras, sensors, motors, and batteries.

Vietnam's Supply Chain and Manufacturing Strengths

The minister emphasized Vietnam's competitive low-cost manufacturing base, ideal for lightweight, modular electronic and mechanical UAV products.

Vietnam boasts a large pool of software engineers and a rapidly developing AI sector, enabling strengths in navigation, computer vision, autonomy, and AI control systems.

Low research and development costs further position Vietnam ahead of sectors like semiconductors and electric vehicles in achieving global leadership.

Domestic Demand Driving UAV Growth

High domestic demand in agriculture, power line inspection, forest and maritime monitoring, and logistics will nurture local UAV businesses.

Historically, Vietnam's electronics manufacturing sector has grown rapidly, laying the foundation for advanced aerospace ventures like UAV production.

The economic impact could include thousands of new high-tech jobs and boosted exports, transforming Vietnam into an innovation hub.

Looking ahead, the Ministry commits to supporting tech firms in R&D and commercialization, prioritizing UAVs, 5G, and blockchain.
