Ventures Platform Raises $83 Million for Expanded Africa Startup Fund

Ventures Platform has closed an oversubscribed $83 million second fund focused on early-stage African startups.

The new fund builds on the firm's $46 million first fund raised in 2022.

Expanding Reach Across Africa

The firm now invests beyond Nigeria with initial checks already made in Kenya, South Africa and Egypt.

Target sectors include fintech, healthcare and SaaS where technology meets essential needs.

AI plays a key role when it lowers service costs or overcomes labor shortages in local markets.

Individual investments will reach up to $3 million and the full amount should deploy over three to four years.

What This Means for Africa's Future

The fundraising took one and a half years in a more selective market where limited partners demand stronger proof of returns.

Seventy percent of previous backers returned including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and Norfund.

Overall African startup funding has slowed to $930 million this year from $1.16 billion last year showing greater discipline.

This shift rewards managers who combine local insight with global connections to help companies scale sustainably.

Over time such targeted capital can create jobs improve access to services and build resilient local economies.

Everyday people may eventually benefit from better healthcare options faster payments and new products made possible by these investments.
