The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and Asia-focused venture capital firm Gobi Partners have announced the first close of the Gobi–HKU Fund I, a groundbreaking joint initiative to support innovative startups.

Established under HKU’s Entrepreneurship Engine Fund, this fund-of-funds structure aims to bridge the gap between academic research and commercial success in Hong Kong’s thriving innovation ecosystem.

The fund targets transformative areas like artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and biotechnology, focusing on university spin-offs in the Greater Bay Area and beyond.

Manifold Tech, specializing in 3D reconstruction for robotics applications, is among the first recipients, poised to revolutionize industrial automation.

AilsynBio received backing for its AI-driven platform accelerating peptide drug discovery, promising faster advancements in personalized medicine.

Chibo Tang, Managing Partner at Gobi Partners, emphasized how such university collaborations accelerate commercialization in these critical sectors.

Clara Chan, CEO of Hong Kong Investment Corporation Limited, praised the fund’s role in fostering cross-sector partnerships for sustainable innovation growth.
