Uber has struck a major deal to acquire the food delivery business of Turkish startup Getir for $335 million upfront.

The agreement also includes Uber purchasing a 15% stake in Getir's remaining grocery, retail, and water delivery operations for $100 million.

Strategic Boost in High-Growth Market

This move builds on Uber's prior $700 million acquisition of Trendyol Go, Turkey's leading food and grocery service, last year.

Uber aims to merge Getir's food delivery with Trendyol Go, enhancing its dominance in Turkey's competitive delivery landscape.

Getir's Rollercoaster History

Founded in 2015, Getir skyrocketed to a $12 billion valuation through rapid expansion into the U.S. and Europe during the pandemic.

Post-lockdown demand slump forced Getir to retreat from international markets in 2024, laying off thousands and refocusing on home turf.

Mubadala, the Emirati fund and Getir's top shareholder, is offloading the unit after winning a legal tussle over restructuring.

Impact and Future Prospects

Getir's food delivery hit over $1 billion in gross bookings in 2025, surging 50% year-over-year.

Uber's delivery revenue reached $4.89 billion in Q4, with Europe, Middle East, and Asia as the fastest-growing region.

The phased deal, set to close over coming years, signals Uber's bet on sustained EMEA delivery boom amid evolving consumer habits.
