Singapore Launches First Space Innovation Lab to Ignite Southeast Asia's Booming Space Economy

Singapore's Singapore Space & Technology Think Tank (SST Think Tank) unveiled the nation's first dedicated Singapore Space Lab on May 15, 2026.

The lab aims to accelerate the commercial use of space technologies across Southeast Asia.

Unlocking Massive Economic Value

It creates a platform connecting businesses, startups, investors, governments, and international partners to apply space tech in real-world sectors.

Key focuses include Earth observation, satellite communications, geospatial analytics, and navigation systems for agriculture, maritime, logistics, energy, and urban planning.

SST Think Tank and Deloitte project that wider Earth observation adoption could generate nearly $100 billion in cumulative GDP for Southeast Asia from 2023 to 2030.

Key Partnerships Fuel Growth

The initiative aligns with the Asia Pacific Alliance for Space Trade Associations (AASTA), uniting trade groups from Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK.

It bolsters SST Think Tank's Growth Lab accelerator, helping local space companies expand globally.

Singapore's Rising Space Power

The launch builds on Singapore's new National Space Agency, established in April 2026 to lead national space efforts.

Having deployed over 30 satellites in two decades, Singapore is positioning itself as a regional space hub amid ASEAN's infrastructure investments.

Nicolette Yeo, SST Think Tank's general manager, said the lab will "translate space technologies into commercial and economic applications for industries on Earth."
