Singapore's 2026 Maritime Tech Roadmap: $100M Investment Drives Autonomous Ports, Smart Ships, and Green Innovation

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and Singapore Maritime Institute (SMI) launched the 2026 Singapore Maritime Technology & Research Roadmap on Tuesday.

This updated roadmap builds on past efforts by emphasizing the translation of research into deployable solutions to enhance maritime innovation and capabilities.

Strategic Priority Areas Unveiled

The roadmap outlines four critical focus areas: autonomous port operations, safe and efficient delivery of alternative energy, smart ships, and intelligent and integrated port services.

These priorities target strengthening resilience, improving productivity, and catalyzing innovation while addressing constraints like manpower shortages and limited space.

Investment Commitment and Historical Evolution

Evolving from the 2019 roadmap, which spurred Maritime Centers of Excellence and the Maritime Transformation Program, this edition was shaped by 2025 industry workshops.

It fosters alignment among government, research bodies, and industry to accelerate technology adoption and mitigate risks.

Over the next five years, more than $100 million will fund R&D in these priority domains.

This investment builds on exceeding $500 million committed to maritime R&D over the past 20 years.

Industry stakeholders are called to co-develop pilots, share insights, and scale successful technologies.

The roadmap will advance digital scaling, practical decarbonization, and seamless port-shipping integration for a sustainable future.

Ultimately, it cements Singapore's leadership in global maritime innovation amid rising international demands.
