DayOne Data Centers Announces $7 Billion Investment in Malaysia to Fuel Digital Hub Ambitions

Singapore-based DayOne Data Centers has unveiled plans to invest over $7 billion (MYR28 billion) in Malaysia by the end of 2026.

This landmark commitment aims to vastly expand the company's data center infrastructure and operations in the country.

Malaysia's Strategic Pivot to Regional Digital Leadership

Malaysia is set to become DayOne Data Centers' largest global operational base, driving more than half of the firm's headcount growth in 2026.

With roots in Singapore and recent $2 billion Series C funding, DayOne has been aggressively scaling its presence across Southeast Asia.

The investment will double direct employment to around 1,200 in Malaysia, while creating over 5,000 indirect jobs across the supply chain.

Boosting Talent and Infrastructure

Phase II expansion of the Global Shared Services Center in Kuala Lumpur will add more than 200 roles in finance, procurement, and corporate functions.

In Johor, DayOne plans to train over 1,000 data center engineers at its new regional operations and training hub.

The announcement was made at the DayOne Tech & AI Career Expo in Kuala Lumpur, launching internship and graduate talent programs.

CEO Jamie Khoo highlighted Malaysia's pivotal role in the company's regional strategy, emphasizing infrastructure and workforce development.

Malaysia's Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi commended the partnership for advancing digital capabilities through government-industry collaboration.

This infusion positions Malaysia at the forefront of Southeast Asia's data center boom, fueled by surging AI and cloud demands.
