Sandbar, a wearable tech startup, has secured a $23 million Series A funding round to advance its groundbreaking AI note-taking ring called Stream.

Founded by former Meta engineers Mina Fahmi and Kirak Hong, the company emerged from stealth last year after two years of development and testing with early adopters.

The Stream ring features a discreet touch-sensitive panel that activates its proximity-tuned microphone for private voice recordings.

Users simply lift their hand to their face to capture notes, chat with an AI assistant, or control media via the companion phone app.

Early users report taking over 50 notes daily for tasks like planning presentations, trips, and meals, highlighting its high utility.

Strong Investor Backing and Rapid Traction

The round was led by Adjacent and Kindred Ventures, bringing Sandbar's total funding to $36 million including a prior $13 million from True Ventures.

Pre-orders for the first batch sold out quickly, prompting a second round amid enthusiastic response from potential customers.

Fahmi noted the warmer-than-expected reception, with many saying they could envision wearing the ring daily.

Future Growth and Market Impact

Sandbar plans to ship the Stream ring this summer while doubling its software and machine learning teams.

Upcoming enhancements include a web platform, reduced latency, agentic workflows, and multi-turn conversational AI for iterative tasks.
