Mistral AI Acquires Koyeb: First Major Deal Accelerates European AI Cloud Dominance

French AI powerhouse Mistral AI has completed its first acquisition by purchasing Paris-based startup Koyeb, signaling a bold push into comprehensive cloud infrastructure.

Valued at $13.8 billion, Mistral AI seeks to evolve from a large language model developer into a full-stack AI leader with this strategic move.

Koyeb's Innovative Legacy

Founded in 2020 by former Scaleway employees Yann Léger, Edouard Bonlieu, and Bastien Chatelard, Koyeb pioneered serverless platforms for seamless AI app deployment at scale.

The startup raised $8.6 million in funding, including a $7 million seed round led by Serena, and recently introduced Koyeb Sandboxes for secure AI agent environments.

Deal Details and Integration

Koyeb's 13 employees and three co-founders will join Mistral AI's engineering team under CTO Timothée Lacroix.

Lacroix emphasized that Koyeb’s expertise will “accelerate our development on the Compute front, and contribute to building a true AI cloud.”

The platform will enable on-premises model deployments, GPU optimization, and enhanced AI inference scaling for enterprise clients.

This acquisition bolsters Europe’s sovereign AI infrastructure amid geopolitical shifts and demand for non-U.S. alternatives.

Mistral AI recently surpassed $400 million in annual recurring revenue and invested $1.4 billion in Swedish data centers.
