New 13+ Content Standards

This framework minimizes teens' encounters with mild suggestive content, strong language, or risky behaviors like stunts and substance references.

A new “Limited Content” mode empowers parents to impose even tighter restrictions, disabling comments and further curating visible posts.

Comprehensive Platform-Wide Protections

These safeguards extend across Instagram's Feed, Reels, Explore, Search, Stories, and direct messages.

Teens are blocked from searching mature terms such as “alcohol” or “gore”, with systems detecting misspellings.

Advanced detection prevents interactions with accounts posting inappropriate content, limiting recommendations and engagements.

Building on History and Future Impact

The updates build on prior blocks for sexually suggestive material, graphic imagery, and adult themes like tobacco promotion.
