A new programme to help Malaysian startups enter Japan; applications close 31st March
Malaysian startups now have a clear path to enter Japan, one of Asia’s largest economies, through a new programme launched by Artem PACE.
The Japan Market Access Programme helps founders expand beyond Southeast Asia into Japan’s advanced business environment, with a GDP exceeding USD 4 trillion.
While Japan is famous for its strong corporate culture, long-term partnerships, and careful decision-making, entering the market has been difficult for foreign startups due to unfamiliar business practices and relationship-focused approach.
To change that, Japan launched its Startup Development Five-Year Plan in 2022. The goal is to increase venture investment from about JPY 800 billion to JPY 10 trillion by 2027, opening doors for more international collaboration.
About the Japan Market Access Programme
The Japan Market Access Programme runs 27–30 April 2026 and brings selected Malaysian startups to Japan for a focused market immersion trip.
Participants will gain the following:
- Learn how Japanese companies operate, form partnerships, and make decisions
- Get advice on what Japanese venture capitalists expect and how to prepare
- Meet corporates, potential partners, and investors directly
- Build a practical strategy for entering the Japanese market
- Gain visibility by joining SusHi Tech Tokyo 2026, one of Asia’s largest innovation conferences (27–29 April)
Startups can choose one of two tracks based on their goals:
- Business Matching & Partnerships – for collaborations with Japanese companies and tech players
- Investment Facilitation – for those seeking funding from Japanese venture capital firms
Malaysian startups seek new markets
As Malaysia’s startup scene grows stronger, more founders are looking at global markets. The programme bridges the two ecosystems, helping Malaysian companies take the next big step.
“Japan is a sophisticated market that values trust and long-term relationships. This programme gives Malaysian founders the insights and introductions needed to explore opportunities effectively”, said Tunku Omar Asraf, Director of Artem PACE.
Interested startups can apply via the following website. Applications for the program close on 31st March 2026. Only shortlisted startups will be contacted.
