FWD Group Strengthens Leadership with Key Appointments: New CFO David Junius, Chief Actuary Alex Wong, and Thailand CEO

FWD Group, the Hong Kong-headquartered pan-Asian life and health insurer serving over 38 million customers across 10 markets, has announced significant senior leadership appointments.

The key hires include David Junius as Managing Director and Group CFO from July 1, 2026, Alex Wong as Group Chief Actuary, and Khun Knattapisit Krutkrongchai as CEO for Thailand effective May 11, 2026, pending regulatory approvals.

Junius will initially join as Deputy Group CFO, succeeding Sid Sankaran, who is relocating to the United States and will advise on investment strategy.

Bringing nearly 30 years of insurance and finance experience, Junius previously served as CFO at Pearl Health, Cowbell Cyber, and SiriusPoint, along with senior roles at AIG.

Chief Actuary and Thailand Leadership Changes

Alex Wong replaces Michael van Vuuren as Group Chief Actuary, with over 20 years of expertise from his recent role at HSBC Life managing actuarial operations globally.

In Thailand, Khun Knattapisit Krutkrongchai succeeds retiring CEO David Korunić, offering 30 years of experience including leadership at Krungthai-AXA Life and AIA Group.

FWD Group CEO Huynh Thanh Phong emphasized that these appointments bring substantial expertise to support the company's growth as a Hong Kong-listed customer-focused insurer.

Since its founding in 2013, FWD has expanded aggressively in Asia, leveraging digital innovation amid rising demand for life and health insurance.

These changes are poised to sharpen financial oversight, actuarial precision, and regional market strategies, driving future profitability and expansion.

Both Sankaran and Korunić will continue as advisors to facilitate seamless transitions.
