Google Rolls Out Financial Services Verification Badge in Malaysia to Combat MYR 2.77 Billion Scam Losses

Google has launched its Financial Services Verification (FSV) program in Malaysia to enhance online safety.
The new initiative requires financial advertisers on Google's platforms to verify their legitimacy starting April 14, 2026.
Verification Process Details
Advertisers must demonstrate licensing from authorities like Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), Securities Commission Malaysia (SC), and Labuan Financial Services Authority (LFSA).
Applications open from March 10 via Google's partner G2, with non-compliant ads blocked from Malaysian users thereafter.
The FSV badge adds a visible trust signal, closing gaps exploited by fraudsters in financial ads.
Malaysia's Growing Scam Threat
Financial scams inflicted MYR 2.77 billion ($710 million) in losses across Malaysia in 2025 alone.
This surge underscores the urgency of tech-driven defenses amid evolving scammer tactics.
Ben King, Google Malaysia's Country Managing Director, stressed partnering with regulators to stay ahead of bad actors.
Global Rollout and Future Prospects
FSV already operates successfully in the UK, Singapore, and Australia, proving its effectiveness.
The program builds on Google's history of tightening financial ad policies worldwide.
Looking ahead, it promises greater consumer confidence and could inspire regional expansions in Southeast Asia.
