Flipkart Backs TravClan with $5M to Empower India's Travel Agents Beyond Metros

Flipkart has joined a $5 million funding round for the Indian travel startup TravClan.
The round also includes equity from August One and debt from Trifecta Capital.
Why this matters for smaller cities and agents
TravClan serves more than 15,000 travel agents across India with its B2B platform.
About 40 percent of its business now comes from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities where demand for international trips is rising fast.
This focus could help independent agents in smaller markets compete with big online players by giving them direct access to hotels and activities.
Flipkart's strategy and what comes next
Flipkart first took a minority stake in TravClan earlier in October to improve offerings on Cleartrip and Flipkart Travel.
The new capital will go toward better AI tools, wider global supplier deals, and stronger operations in key destinations.
Founders may see this as a way to build shared infrastructure that many travel businesses can use instead of building everything themselves.
Over the next 12 months Indian outbound travel is likely to keep growing and this deal positions both companies to capture more of that wave.
Other e-commerce players watching the space may follow with similar moves into travel tech.
TravClan has now raised more than $11 million in total since its start in 2018.
