Equinix Invests $190M in New Malaysia Data Center to Power AI and Cloud Surge

Equinix, a leading global digital infrastructure provider, has announced a $190 million investment to build a new data center in Malaysia.

The facility, named KL2, will be located in Cyberjaya near Kuala Lumpur, offering over 2,200 cabinets when fully developed.

Expanding Footprint in Southeast Asia

This marks Equinix's fourth data center in Malaysia, complementing its existing KL1 site and upcoming Johor facilities JH1 and JH2.

The expansion responds to booming demand for AI-ready infrastructure, cloud computing, and low-latency connections in the region.

"This expansion marks an important milestone in our journey to elevate Malaysia's digital economy," said Cheam Tat Inn, Managing Director for Equinix Malaysia.

Boosting Malaysia's AI Ambitions

The new center supports Malaysia's national AI initiatives, like the National Artificial Intelligence Office, by enabling distributed AI processing closer to data sources.

Featuring advanced liquid cooling, KL2 caters to high-density AI and high-performance computing workloads that traditional air-cooled centers struggle with.

For everyday Malaysians, this means faster streaming, more reliable remote work tools, and innovative AI services like smarter traffic apps or personalized healthcare.
