Equinix Invests $190M in New AI-Ready Data Center to Boost Malaysia's Digital Future

Equinix has announced a major expansion in Malaysia with a new data center called KL2.

The facility in Cyberjaya, near Kuala Lumpur, will cost over $190 million and hold more than 2,200 cabinets when complete.

Equinix's Rapid Growth in Malaysia

This marks Equinix's fourth data center in the country, building on existing sites in Kuala Lumpur and Johor.

The company already operates KL1 in Cyberjaya and has invested heavily in Johor hubs JH1 and JH2.

Cheam Tat Inn, Managing Director for Malaysia at Equinix, said the project supports national AI goals and creates high-value jobs.

Powering AI and Cloud Innovation

KL2 features advanced liquid cooling for high-performance AI and computing workloads.

It connects to Equinix's global network, linking businesses across ASEAN via subsea cables and Equinix Fabric.

The design enables distributed AI, processing data closer to users for faster services in e-commerce and gaming.

Sustainability and Economic Impact

Equinix aims for 100% renewable energy at KL2, aligning with its 2030 global target.

This investment taps into Malaysia's MyDIGITAL and AI roadmaps, positioning the nation as a Southeast Asian data hub amid Singapore's capacity limits.
