BYD Electronics Boosts Vietnam Investment to $480M in Phu Tho Province, Eyes EV Expansion

BYD Electronics has significantly increased its investment in Vietnam's northern Phu Tho province to $479.8 million.

This latest hike builds on previous commitments, raising the total from $269 million set in July 2022, with initial investments starting in 2021.

Project Details and Expansion

The facility primarily produces tablets, accessories for Apple, and optical components, enhancing Vietnam's role in global electronics supply chains.

The investment increase was officially certified on April 20, 2026, during a visit by Phu Tho officials to BYD's factory in Guangzhou, China.

Vietnam-China bilateral trade surged to $252 billion in 2025, underscoring deepening economic ties between the two nations.

China ranks as Vietnam's third-largest foreign investor and leads in newly registered investment projects.

The Kunming–Lao Cai–Hanoi–Hai Phong–Quang Ninh economic corridor is facilitating expanded trade and industrial collaboration.

Future Opportunities and EV Ambitions

Phu Tho People’s Committee Chairman Tran Duy Dong praised BYD as a symbol of green transportation and urged the company to establish an electric vehicle factory in the province.

BYD executives responded positively, promising to consult with top management on the EV proposal.
