ByteXL Raises $9M to Expand AI Skilling for Engineering Students in Tier-2 Cities

Indian edtech startup byteXL has closed a $9 million funding round.
The round was led by Elevar Equity with participation from Kalaari Capital and the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation.
Expansion Plans and AI Focus
The company works with engineering colleges to integrate technology and AI skills into regular degree programs.
byteXL currently reaches about 200,000 students across 40 to 60 colleges in 10 states.
Founders plan to grow to 120 colleges and 500,000 students across 15 states within two years.
Funds will support market expansion into states like Odisha and Karnataka plus product development.
A major focus is AI-enabled learning tools including coaches and analytics for personalized student support.
Why This Funding Matters for Founders
This B2B model embedded in colleges can improve job placements by addressing skill gaps early.
Students in smaller cities gain better access to industry training without relocating to metros.
Employers may see a wider talent pool from tier-2 and tier-3 areas over the next 12 months.
The round follows a $5.9 million Series A in 2024 and signals renewed investor interest in targeted edtech.
byteXL reports it is already profitable at the EBITDA level with net break-even expected soon.
