Vietjet Secures Lease for 10 COMAC C909 Aircraft from Chinese Lessor, Boosting Vietnam-China Aviation Ties

Vietnam's low-cost carrier Vietjet has signed a finance lease agreement for 10 COMAC C909 aircraft with SPDB Financial Leasing.

The deal was inked during Vietnamese leader To Lam's state visit to China, hosted by Xi Jinping, marking deeper bilateral aviation cooperation.

Strategic Fleet Expansion and Route Growth

This operating lease arrangement will help Vietjet diversify its financing sources and bolster fleet operations.

The aircraft pave the way for Vietjet to deploy COMAC C909 planes on key Vietnam-China routes, enhancing regional connectivity.

Previously, in 2025, Vietjet operated COMAC C909 aircraft on Hanoi-Con Dao and Ho Chi Minh City-Con Dao routes due to airport constraints.

Accompanying the lease, Vietjet announced five new routes: Hanoi-Hangzhou, Hanoi-Enshi, Hanoi-Huangshan, Ho Chi Minh City-Guilin, and Ho Chi Minh City-Huangshan.

Robust Financials Fuel Future Ambitions

Two of these routes, Hanoi-Enshi and Ho Chi Minh City-Guilin, launched in early April 2026.

In 2025, Vietjet achieved consolidated revenue of VND82,093 billion ($3.11 billion), a 13.9% year-on-year increase.

The airline's profit before tax surged 44.3% to VND2,630 billion, with after-tax profit up 51.2% to VND2,123 billion.

This partnership underscores growing economic ties, promising more affordable travel options and economic stimulus between Vietnam and China.

Looking ahead, the lease positions Vietjet, led by billionaire Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, for sustained growth in Asia's competitive aviation market.
