Senior Backend Engineer

Why We Need You

Over the past year, GovEagle has become the vendor of choice for most of the top 10 government contractors in the country. Our platform is experiencing 10x usage growth, and our AI agents are helping customers shred requirements, build compliance matrices, and draft proposals in hours instead of weeks.

To keep up with this growth, we’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to build and optimize the core systems powering our platform. You’ll work across our backend, from API performance to AI pipeline efficiency to infrastructure, making sure everything stays fast, reliable, and scalable as the largest defense contractors in the world rely on GovEagle daily.

What You're Signing Up For

1. Profiling and optimizing critical paths across our backend to keep API response times fast and AI pipelines efficient as workload complexity and customer volume grow 10x.

2. Identifying and resolving bottlenecks in our database layer, background job orchestration, and async processing, particularly for long-running LLM workloads.

3. Building on top of our existing Grafana stack to improve logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting so we can understand system behavior in production and catch issues before customers do.

4. Designing infrastructure improvements to support heavier workloads, more concurrent users, and increasingly complex AI pipelines without sacrificing latency or reliability.

5. Improving our build, test, and deployment pipelines so the team can ship faster and with more confidence.

6. Owning our on-call processes, SLOs, and incident response playbooks. Making production boring.

7. Being a thought partner to the CTO on backend architecture decisions. Evaluating tradeoffs, writing RFCs, and raising the engineering bar across the team.

Who We're Looking For

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience, with meaningful time spent on production systems at scale.

• Deep expertise in Python. You should be very comfortable working with FastAPI, async patterns, and performance profiling.

• Strong experience with cloud infrastructure, including Kubernetes, Terraform, and AWS.

• You’ve dealt with real scaling and performance challenges and can speak concretely about the bottlenecks you found and the tradeoffs you made

• Strong observability instincts. You've built on top of or significantly improved monitoring, logging, and alerting systems.

• An ownership mentality. You don't wait to be told what to work on. You see a gap, propose a solution, and execute.

• Comfortable working in a startup environment. We're a small team moving fast with a lot of autonomy and very little bureaucracy.

Nice to have:

• Experience with AWS GovCloud, FedRAMP, or other government compliance frameworks.

• Experience with on-prem deployment and maintenance.

• Experience with AI/LLM workloads (long-running tasks, high-memory jobs, async processing).
