Chief executive officer of SpaceX and Tesla, Elon Musk, is considering a visit to Indonesia to explore possible investment opportunities there.
Indonesia president Joko Widodo recently extended an invitation to the world's richest man after meeting on a SpaceX site in Texas, according to Bloomberg.
"Hopefully in November, thank you for the invitation," Musk replied, according to a statement released by Widodo’s office.
The meeting happened when Widodo was in the country to attend the US-ASEAN Special Summit.
Indonesia, with its abundance of copper, nickel and tin, is hoping to lure foreign investments and Widodo is looking at using the opportunity to kickstart an electric vehicle industry locally.
The government has held talks on potential collaborations with Musk’s teams over the past few years, including on the development of electric vehicles with Tesla and on the possibility of a SpaceX rocket launch site in the country, but so far there was no agreement to the proposed plans.
On the other hand, Elon Musk's US$44 billion Twitter acquisition is put on hold due to spam and fake accounts on the social media platform.
