“PICK yourself up, do better, go out there and change the world.”

This was the advice of television host, actress and entrepreneur Noor Neelofa Mohd Noor to young women.

Neelofa, 28, said this at the Forbes 30 Under 30 Summit Asia in Manila, the Philippines, which began last Monday.

She was given the honour to speak about her business and what feminism meant to her.

This coincided with the theme of the two-day summit — “Diversity and Empowerment”.

Joining her on stage were entrepreneurs South Korean Lee Jisoo, co-founder of Dano, and Katrina Razon, managing partner of Third Culture Music & Media and festival director of Wonderfruit.

Neelofa, founder of NH Prima International Sdn Bhd, a company that operates business ventures, including popular hijab brand Naelofar Hijab, hoped to see gender equality in all areas.

“I believe in gender equality. There should be equal pay and freedom of choice.

“I have always believed that men and women should work alongside each other,” the actress said during a panel session that was posted on her Instagram account.

“I believe that women have the right to be given opportunities that the world has to offer because we are all created equal.”

On feminism, she said: “There is nothing shameful in calling yourself a feminist. There are a lot of celebrities, like Beyonce, Adele and Emma Watson, who take a stand on feminism.

“Society must understand that women can do a job just as good as men.”

She said society needed to be educated on the changing times, where women and men could enjoy equal status and opportunities.

This, she said, would empower women to realise their full potential and contribute to national, political, economic, social and cultural development, as well as benefit from the results.

The second annual Forbes 30 Under 30 Summit Asia listed 250 influential young entrepreneurs under the Forbes 30 Under 30 list, as well as notable industry leaders and innovators across Asia and the world.

Present at the summit was Fashionvalet co-founder and managing director Vivy Yusof.

Last April, Neelofa was listed among the 300 honorees of the Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia 2017 list under the Retail & E-commerce category.
