Last Wednesday (18th), BEAM kicked off The Pitch - A live pitching event featuring teams of startups with an idea or prototype, pitching to raise RM50,000 from a panel of investor judges in exchange for a minor equity stake in their company.
2 teams came out victorious out of the 8 - Babyz Breath and Airshoppr.
Babyz Breath
Babyz Breath is a startup that makes it really easy to book confinement services for expecting mothers. Users are able to choose from a broad range of services ranging from postnatal massages, confinement meals, caregivers, homevisits, and more. Users are also able to access services from a broad range of locations within Malaysia. To date, they have over 40 caregivers on the platform.
Bookings can easily be placed via an easy to use form on their website, accepting various forms of payment methods.
The team of 5 aims to grow the business more aggressively across Malaysia with the initial round of investment.
Airshoppr
Airshoppr, a startup still in it's infancy, allows anyone to pay travellers to buy back items from overseas via an easy to use website and mobile application. The goal is to make it more convenient for anyone to purchase items from overseas, and to allow travellers to earn some extra cash by being personal shoppers.
As of now, users can already make requests to purchase overseas items via a simple form available on their website. Interested users can also sign up to their mailing list should they be keen on beta testing the mobile application once it is released.
With the initial investment, the team aims to produce a solid product available on mobile and take their business to a wider audience.
The next batch for The Pitch will be held on 15th February 2017, with a potentially new line-up of investor judges.
