According to Pandaily, Alibaba’s enterprise communication and collaboration platform, DingTalk is letting go nearly 30% of its workforce.
It is reported that DingTalk had conducted "organisational optimisations" and it was not a substantial layoff and the overall adjustment ratio was less than 10% of staff.
Besides that, a familiar source mentioned that DingTalk removes around 4% to 10% of low-performing employees annually.
This year, DingTalk apparently removed 6% of low-performing employees and some people resigned voluntarily in 2021, the source added.
While the company has streamlined its workforce particularly those that primarily dealt with independently developed software as a service (SaaS) and hardware, other departments were not affected as much, and a few departments even hired new staff.
During March this year, DingTalk mentioned in a press conference saying that it is focusing on being a platform as a service (PaaS), working on underlying capacity building.
The platform had a record high 220 million monthly active users in March, according to data from third-party tracker QuestMobile.
Large businesses contributed the most to the statistic, as more companies arranged for staff to work from home because of China’s Covid-19 outbreak.
