AirAsia's chief executive officer, Tony Fernandes recently announced the company has sorted out 90% of passenger refunds to date.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Malaysia-based low-cost airline was forced to issue refunds on the sale of their flight tickets.
Fernandes mentioned that Capital A Berhad (formerly known as AirAsia Group Bhd) is being transparent on the issue and is processing refunds as quickly as possible despite suffering heavy financial difficulty during the pandemic.
He also added that this was possible without any huge financial aid from the government compared to other airlines, as AirAsia was flying about 90 million people pre-Covid-19 period.
“Our guest understood that we have been supportive even though there had been some noise and the press is making an issue out of it,” Tony Fernandes said during the virtual launch of airasia Super App’s new Super+ plan.
As flights resume in Southeast Asia, there should not be any issue in the next few months with more passengers getting their refunds.
Besides that, AirAsia X’s guests would be issued vouchers when the airline resumes as a gesture of goodwill.
With Malaysia opening up on 1 April, air travel will see a strong comeback with AirAsia having a strong backing, as it performed beyond expectations in most domestic markets.
