AutoNavi plans to go beyond mapping services and evolve into an "open service platform" by adding integrated mobility features.
Alibaba recently reconfigured AutoNavi's services by allowing Fliggy, a trip booking platform, to be linked with the app.
“In the past, everyone became accustomed to using AutoNavi for navigation. In the future, I hope that everyone will use AutoNavi for going out and enjoying life.”
According to chairman Yu Yongfu, AutoNavi will incorporate features such as dining, entertainment, and lifestyle services.
Far from the usual door-to-door services, the Alibaba-backed startup will be focusing on social consumption settings such us night life, entertainment, and outdoor dining.
Operating for 19 years, AutoNavi has thus far resolved users' problems of finding their location and selecting the best route to a destination, but the platform is now evolving to propose new places to visit.
With this, Yongfu stated that the company will promote the additional offerings under its new tagline, "Everywhere is familiar".
Furthermore, the platform will provide more user-generated content in the future, including capabilities that allow users to create instructions and personalized material within AutoNavi.
