Apple is continuously working on new ways to help developers bring their apps to more users.
In a recent report, it appears that Apple is introducing a new way for developers to advertise their apps on the App Store.
Key Highlights
Apple is improving its App Store with new "Search Tab Campaigns" — Basically "display ads" that appear on the App Store's search tab.
Prior to this, App Store ads only showed up when users typed in search terms (ie: Users typing "Taxi" will potentially see ads of Uber).
Now, ads appear on the search tab, even before users type a search query (screenshot below).
Why it matters
This new placement is great for developers looking to increase visibility of their apps, especially newer apps that recently launched.
The ad placements take advantage of assets already uploaded by developers to the App Store, making it very easy to set up.
"Search Tab Campaigns" have no minimum spend, and advertisers are charged by what they use.
With Apple introducing new privacy changes to iOS 14.5, this could be one way for the company to drive advertising revenue from competitors.
Many speculate that "Search Tab Campaigns" advertising costs may be significantly lower than competitors as fewer advertisers are currently using this feature.
