Microsoft is in talks to buy China's popular video social network, TikTok.

This move could potentially save TikTok from being banned in the US, as the app continues facing backlash from lawmakers due to "national security risks".

While there is no certainty a deal would be reached just yet, Microsoft aims to conclude negotiations by September 15th.

Selling to Microsoft might be a good move, as it would appease US lawmakers, and potentially boost Microsoft's digital advertising business amongst the youth.

Aside from the US, TikTok was banned earlier last month in India, with Japan potentially following suit.

"Hundreds of millions of people come to TikTok for entertainment and connection, including our community of creators and artists who are building livelihoods from the platform. We are not political, we do not accept political advertising and have no agenda – our only objective is to remain a vibrant, dynamic platform for everyone to enjoy," TikTok CEO Kevin Mayer said in a post this week.
