As the online video conferencing space heats up due to global lock-downs, Facebook has launched Messenger Rooms — a direct competitor to Zoom and Google Meet.

Messenger Rooms will allow free video calls of up to 50 people with no time limit, unlike Zoom's which only lasts for 40 minutes on their basic (free) account.

Similar to Zoom and Google Meet, people without a Facebook / Messenger account will be able to access the conference calls via a browser link.

While Messenger Rooms may not come with features as robust as Zoom's, it certainly looks like this is an area Facebook will be investing heavily in moving forward.

Messenger Rooms is rolling out "in some countries" this week, and will expand globally "in the coming weeks".
