Eco Foodsoft, a new technology company from Malaysia is on a mission to save our planet from our wasted food.
According to a study conducted by the United Nations, over 30% of food produced worldwide is wasted and disposed in landfills.
These disposed food in landfills are extremely harmful to the environment, potentially causing global warming, soil deterioration, pests, and many other health hazards.
In fact, over 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions are caused by disposed food in landfills as a result from the afternoon heat causing the food to decompose — producing harmful gasses such as methane, nitrous oxide, and carbon dioxide, all of which are a hazard to the environment.
Current approaches to food waste management have failed to address this problem, potentially causing long term detrimental effects to both the environment and the economy.
This is the problem Eco Foodsoft aims to solve — To ensure that food waste is managed and disposed in an environmentally safe and cost effective manner.
Founded and led by operations director Cliff Ong, Eco Foodsoft focuses on helping companies in Malaysia save costs spent on disposing food waste by converting the disposed food into both useful and environmentally friendly products.
With a team of industry experts in the environmental science space, Eco Foodsoft's waste management approach is conducted via a systematic & efficient process where disposed food is collected and converted into rich protein organic feed such as fertilizers, compost, and plant/animal feed.
Not only is this able to reduce up to 50% of food disposed in landfills, this saves the environment and significantly reduces overhead costs by businesses in the long run.
At the same time, proper food waste management improves overall cleanliness in the area, reducing the risk of penalties as a result of poor hygiene from improper food waste disposal.
As of today, Eco Foodsoft serves a wide range of organizations ranging from conglomerates like Sime Darby and Sunway Group, all the way to small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
Eco Foodsoft has also acquired the license for the collection and handling of wastage from the Malaysian government, with plans to transform this initiative into a nationwide initiative.
Founder of Eco Foodsoft believes that not only is food waste management a potential billion dollar industry, it has an environmental impact that could greatly improve the quality of human life.
The company is serious about pushing this initiative forward, having invested in a 17,000 sqft factory to convert food waste into useful products.
"Not only is ineffective food waste management harmful to the environment, but has long term detrimental effects such as pests, water contamination, soil destruction, and more — creating a multitude of problems that cost more resources to solve. We believe Eco Foodsoft is a pioneer in this industry, and able to bring significant change and impact both to businesses as well as to the world in a sustainable manner.", mentioned CEO of Eco Foodsoft, Cliff Ong
