What will the travel industry be like in 2022?

Would love to hear anyone's thoughts on this.

I believe travel will pick up in 2022, judging from how activity has started picking up a lot more in 2021.

Right now the main problem with travel is the paperwork and quarantine processes that consume so much time. In some countries, I heard that quarantines last as long as 10 days. In other words, short international trips will no longer happen unless it is for urgent business travel.

Hence what 2022 travel will start out as:

  • Local travel will start to rise
  • International travel between neighbouring countries will also rise (with travel bubbles)
  • Staycations and similar-city traveling will also pick up (temporarily)

All this is under the assumption that:

  • New virus strains aren't as deadly (or weaken)
  • More travel bubbles / vaccine passports are set up between countries.
  • Vaccines get stronger and more effective with more data/research.

Assuming the above, travel + business should see a recovery by mid-late 2022.

That will depend on the conditions of boundaries-reopening. But local tourism will definitely has more market shares in 2022 onwards.
