XUsed – Turning Wastes into Money
This idea is about making the world a better place by transforming recycled wastes (e.g., used cooking oil, plastic products, aluminum cans, food wastes, e-wastes etc.) into a valuable commodity. This is done by creating an IT application called XUsed (www.xused.com) that provides a platform for people to sell and buy their waste products with ease. This app gives opportunities for people or households to earn extra income from selling their wastes. With XUsed, entrepreneurs or waste collectors can buy wastes from sellers who may come from low-income or under-privilege groups, and this promotes social entrepreneurship activities. As a business platform, XUsed transforms waste products to become commodities that have monetary value. As a consequence, people will not throw wastes heartlessly and by recycling of the wastes this would lead to cleaner environments. The monetary value or price of a particular waste product will be determined by the market demand and supply of that product. In XUsed, we provide both seller’s as well as buyer’s dashboards. The seller’s dashboard advertises waste products available, the quantity, and the price of each waste product (e.g., USD 0.60 per kg for used cooking oil). Sellers can update the quantities of their wastes from time to time. Potential buyers go through the quantities of waste products available for sale in the buyer’s dashboard. Once agreed to buy, interested buyers will make transaction through XUsed and collect the purchased waste items at a particular collection point as scheduled by XUsed.
