ABOUT THE ROLE
The Vice President People Operations will be responsible for providing executive-level leadership and guidance to the company's People Operations team. The Vice President is responsible for setting, enforcing, and evaluating legally compliant People Operations policies, procedures, and best practices, and identifying and implementing long-term strategic talent management goals.
JOB DESCRIPTION
- Responsible for the translation of corporate strategy and organisation plans into the People and Performance strategy and associated key performance indicators.
- Review business processes and organisational structures to determine their fit with best practices and business strategy
- Lead the implementation of approved business processes and structures in a way that minimises disruptions to business operations.
- Perform organisational leadership analysis to determine the nature of future management and leadership competencies required by the business.
- Develop and implement various developmental programmes for the identified talent pool (e.g., management development programmes, executive development programmes and supervisory development programmes)
- Evaluate and validate training interventions for senior managers and executives in line with the Learning Return on Investment (ROI) methodology.
- Implement a robust performance management system that ensures proper alignment of performance with business objectives and strategy.
- Identify and recommend to the Leadership, reward systems and processes that attract, motivate, and retain employees.
- Develop and update recruitment, selection and placement systems and procedures in line with business strategy.
- Manage the effective administration of various staff benefits in line with company policy e.g., long service awards, motor vehicle loans, medical insurance etc
- Develop and manage an employee communication plan to ensure that staff is aware of relevant information, policies and procedures that enhance productivity.
- Advice management on disciplinary and grievance handling matters.
- Develop and implement effective and efficient HR systems that promote efficiencies across the business.
- Oversee the development of surveys in order to determine the level of employee engagement to the mission, vision and values of the business.
- Champion the implementation of all HR transformation interventions to ensure that they are implemented with minimal disruption of business operations and employee engagement levels.
- Ascertain the job cover ratio for the key positions and determine the talent gap.
- Coordinate, review, and present periodic monthly management HR Dashboard reports and special purpose reports required by the Executive Committee.
- Ensure that performance data is systematically analysed to identify training needs and inform wider workforce planning. Work with People Ops team to consider the impact of employment practices and processes on staff performance.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge & Skills
- Extensive knowledge of employment legislation and best practices across Africa
- Sound business acumen, willingness to take initiative and thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Good knowledge of immigration and relocation practices
- Ability to navigate a complex organisation in transition, bringing a flexible attitude and a growth mindset
- Strong employee focus with superior collaboration and interpersonal skills
- Comfortable with all forms of technology
- Able to travel across Africa and internationally
Experience & Education
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field and/or a combination of relevant experience and education
- Minimum 10 years of progressive HR experience serving in strategically focused roles, preferably in an international/global organisation
- Track record of developing strong partnerships internally and externally and using influence (rather than direct authority) to make change
