The Thermal Engineer is responsible for end-to-end ownership of thermal management for the Wright electric drive train and propulsion system. Perform system-level thermal analysis and collaborate cross-functionally to define project requirements and clearly communicate limitations. Use first principles for feasibility and initial scoping. Develop analytical (compact) and computational models (numerical). Drive component requirements, design selection. Perform design optimization and early performance evaluation. Develop and execute product validation. Drive module-level reliability (bench-top and in-vehicle).

Requirements: Bachelor degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or related and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). Academic background, internship or work experience to include: CFD packages (such as ANSYS Icepak, Flotherm, Comsol, or ANSYS APDL); CAD (Catia or SolidWorks); Design of Experiment; Numerical analysis; Reliability testing of electrical components; Programming in MATLAB; and Thermal evaluation and testing. Successful completion of reference and background checks is required.

Requirements for this position include:

  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering is required; Master of Science is preferred
  • Must have a thorough understanding of applicable heat transfer and thermodynamic principles
  • Ability to work with SolidWorks
  • Familiar with thermal analysis tools (eg. Thermal desktop).
  • Familiar with performing environmental testing (Thermal Cycling and Vibration).
  • Thermal design and analysis experience are required; Must be familiar with products for the aerospace environment including power electronics and large electric machines
  • Will design and contribute to manufacturing efforts of Heat Sinks, and more advanced thermal management solutions implemented in the electronics industry
  • Should be knowledgeable of common manufacturing practices and processes
  • Should be familiar with the full product-life cycle and be able to independently work toward project goals and deadlines
  • Will work directly with Sr. Mechanical Engineers on assigned projects and coordinate with production leaders and shop floor personnel
  • Will contribute to government proposals for NASA, ARPA-e and other government agencies
  • Contribute to QA / QC
  • Full-time, permanent, direct-hire position.

This position requires the ability to obtain access to National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Department of Defense (DoD) and other government facilities. Access to the facilities requires a background investigation by the U.S. Government.

This is an urgent need and we will be able to interview and hiring during COVID-19.

Relocation:

This position is located in Albany, NY. Preference will be given to applicants in the Albany area or willing to relocate. Due to COVID-19, Wright will consider remote work for the present time.
