About the Role
Railbird is looking for a software engineer to help us build the technology powering our exchange and front-end user experience. We need an experienced JavaScript engineer with strong design sensibilities and a desire to create interfaces that are a pleasure to use for both retail and veteran traders. Early work will be focused on UI development, but we expect the candidate to learn and contribute to all parts of the technology stack. The candidate will be working on a small team in the early stages of product development with exposure to all parts of the company.
Key responsibilities and opportunities
- Contribute to our early frontend architecture by translating designs into clean, pixel perfect code
- Develop new features in a maintainable and performant fashion
- Work collaboratively with other engineers to provide code reviews, encourage best practices, and iterate on our APIs
- Work with the engineering team and founders to build elegant UIs in SvelteJS
- Keep our product up-to-date with the latest frontend technologies such as Svelte, Tailwind/SCSS and ES2016+
- Develop, improve, and maintain the engine that undergirds our exchange. This includes tools for detecting and prohibiting market manipulation, KYC/AML for market surveillance, and optimizing trade execution speed and liquidity
- Monitor and scale our critical infrastructure to ensure consistent market uptime in-line with regulatory requirements
The right candidate will have:
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment autonomously while being comfortable seeking help when you get stuck
- Prioritize creator value over technical novelty. You care more about user satisfaction than a perfect technical design
- Ability to prototype new concepts quickly and iterate for rapid feedback
- Well-versed in ES6, Typescript, Svelte/React/Angular/Similar, HTML5 and CSS3
- Have full knowledge of the DOM, new HTML5 constructs, and CSS3/SASS/SCSS
- Familiarity with AWS
- At least 3 years of full-time professional software engineering experience
Nice to haves:
- Keep up-to-date with the newest technologies
- Experience with D3.js, other charting libraries, or with other data visualization/web projects
- BS or MS in Computer Science or related or equivalent industry experience
Benefits
- Competitive salary and equity stake
- Flexible and hybrid work setup
- Office in NYC near Grand Central (with a free gym!)
- Health, dental, and vision insurance
- Unlimited PTO/vacation days
- Team events at professional sports games!
