Senior Recruiter

We're hiring a Senior Recruiter to help us build a world-class team at Heron. This role is all about recruitment: sourcing exceptional candidates, running fast and rigorous hiring processes, and closing great people across engineering, sales, product, and operations. If you love the craft of recruiting: finding people who aren't looking, building pipelines from nothing, and closing candidates against bigger offers, then we'd love to hear from you.

The Opportunity

Heron is 60 people today and could double over the next 12-18 months. You'll be the person making that happen. You'll own the full recruiting lifecycle: from building sourcing strategies, to running processes to closing offers, and working directly with founders and hiring managers across every function.

This is a recruiting role, not a people ops role. We need someone who wakes up thinking about how to fill the next five roles, not how to redesign the performance review cycle. That said, if you're great at this and want to eventually take on broader scope (onboarding, people operations), that path will be there - but we're hiring for recruiting first.

What You'll Do

  • Source and build pipelines for our highest-priority roles across engineering, sales, product, and operations. You'll proactively identify and engage candidates, not just post jobs and wait.
  • Run end-to-end hiring processes - screen candidates, coordinate interviews, manage hiring managers, and keep everything moving fast without sacrificing quality.
  • Close exceptional candidates - craft compelling offers, navigate competing situations, and sell candidates on what makes Heron special.
  • Build recruiting infrastructure - set up and improve scorecards, sourcing playbooks, funnel metrics, and interview training so we can hire at increasing scale and quality.
  • Partner with founders and hiring managers on role scoping, candidate calibration, and market intelligence. You'll have a real seat at the table on hiring decisions.
  • Own onboarding logistics to make sure every new hire is set up for success from day one.

What We're Looking For

Our ideal hire will be:

  • A proven recruiter: you've personally sourced, screened, and closed a high volume of hires across multiple functions. You've done the work, not just managed others doing it.
  • Experienced in high-growth environments: you've helped scale a company through a meaningful phase of expansion (e.g., 30 → 100+ people), ideally at a startup where speed and talent bar both mattered.
  • A strong sourcer and closer: you know how to find candidates who aren't actively looking, get them excited about an opportunity, and close them - even against bigger-brand competitors.
  • Operationally excellent: you can run 5-10 searches simultaneously without dropping the ball. You're organized, fast, and hold a high standard on candidate experience.
  • Systems-minded but pragmatic: you build structured processes (scorecards, sourcing strategy, funnel metrics) but don't hide behind process when speed is required.
  • A sharp judge of talent: you know how to separate signal from noise in interviews and can calibrate with hiring managers on what "great" looks like for each role.
  • Clear and warm communicator: whether it's a hiring pitch, candidate feedback, or a tough conversation with a hiring manager, you communicate with clarity and empathy.

Above all else, we value people who want to make an impact in their work. Here are some of the behaviors that we expect of all Herons:

  • Scrappy and creative: when faced with an obstacle, you will either overcome it by pure determination (i.e., by hand), or find an unconventional approach or 'hack' to navigate it.
  • Persistent: you may not always find the right answer or person immediately, but you're motivated to keep on trying until you do so. You'll go the extra mile - including Flying to Gainesville - if that's what it takes.
  • Pilot not passenger: at a fast-growing company like Heron we need people who jump on opportunities unprompted and drive them to a great outcome, rather than folks who wait to be told what to do.
  • Excited to work in a fast-paced, high-growth, team-based environment: we aim to move quickly and decisively, but together. You'll be a great team player and do what it takes for the team to succeed.

What You Can Expect as a Heron

  • Competitive compensation, including equity
  • Based full-time, and in-person in our NYC office, with occasional travel (e.g. to company offsites)
  • Your choice of top-of-the-line equipment to fit out your desk in our office
  • Competitive benefits package: health, dental, vision with partial coverage for dependents; 401K; uncapped PTO; parental leave
  • Free mental health support via Spill - on-demand access to therapy
  • Weekly company lunches (always inclusive and vegan-friendly - especially if you like Vietnamese food!)
  • Applicants from any background and gender are welcome and we have a zero tolerance policy on discrimination
