Hatchways' mission is bold. We're modernizing education by helping people new to the tech industry get real, practical experience on-the-job instead of in the classroom.
Our goal is to provide access to opportunities to people who otherwise would have been overlooked through our background-blind skills assessment and project-based work simulations.
Hatchways is a place you come to make an impact, working with like-minded people to build something meaningful-- a future we'd like to live in.
About the role: As the first Product Designer on the team, you will have the opportunity to collaborate closely with both the CEO and CTO (co-founders) on reimagining how employers hire people that are non-obvious, and traditionally overlooked, through innovative design. We are looking for someone who is unafraid to take risks, who is highly empathetic and thrives in a startup environment. You'll have full ownership of the design process, including research, testing, cross-functional communication, copywriting, and visual and brand design. As we grow, you'll also have the opportunity to continue to be an individual contributor or have the opportunity to lead a team.
This role is open to anyone around the world. A slight preference for someone in Canada.
Our ideal fit is a Product Designer who:
-Wants to revolutionize how education and recruiting is communicated and interacted with around the world
-Likes to tackle ambiguous problems and shape them into clear product goals
-Is on a relentless pursuit to understand users’ needs and build product users are excited to use
-Has a strong sense of ownership and leadership
-Thoughtful, thinks of all the important details and edge cases, digs in, asks questions
-Extremely organized can juggle multiple projects at the same time, but can go deep
-Looks at problems from all angles - from a business perspective, from the users perspective, from an engineering perspective
-Thrives in a fast-paced environment and loves working on a diverse array of projects that span cross-disciplinary teams
-Obsesses about continuous product improvement and loves using data and user feedback to drive design decisions
-Understands technical constraints and can get into implementation details with developers
What you bring to the table:
-3+ years of product design experience, ideally designing large projects (both B2C and B2B)
-Successful track record of generating design ideas required to solve problems, and taking ownership of the design process, including research, testing, cross-functional communication, copywriting and visual design
-Experience in planning, designing, running and analysing User Research activities
-Previous experience working in an early stage startup (seed or Series A)
