Aleph (YC S21) makes it easy for finance teams to build financial models in Excel/Google Sheets that are always up-to-date. Our main thesis is that, while specialized software abounds (Anaplan, Adaptive Insights, etc.), it's usually clunky, too expensive to implement and maintain, and takes people away from the tool they love the most — spreadsheets.
Aleph was founded by Albert Gozzi and Santiago Perez De Rosso, two technical founders with backgrounds from Stanford and MIT and experience working at top-tier companies such as Google, Microsoft, and Bain & Company. We are a small but mighty team of 10, backed by top VCs (Khosla Ventures, Google Ventures, YC), and work with customers like Turo, Notion, Zapier, and others.
🔍 What we're looking for
Aleph is searching for an experienced full-stack engineer to join our small-but-growing team (2 founders + 6 engineers + 1 product designer + 2 operations). You'll be our resident full-stack expert, making sure our product delivers a great experience regardless of whether using our web, Google Sheets, or Excel interface. This is an exciting opportunity for someone to come in as an early member of the team and drive the development of the platform from the ground up.
👷 What you'll be doing
- Deliver robust, scalable, and well-tested code, using technologies like React and Node.js
- Build end-to-end experiences that ensure we deliver a delightful product to our users
- Work hand-in-hand with our technical CEO, CTO, and other teammates to prioritize and execute on our product roadmap
- Help establish best practices (frameworks, testing, CI, code reviews, etc) to lay the foundation for a high-performing technology team and its culture
🙋 About you
Startup fit
- You have an ownership mentality and have past experience owning a core aspect of the product (product design, technical architecture, infra, key features, etc). You seek out responsibility and aren't scared to have accountability.
- You work effectively in a small and tight-knit team. You're comfortable with having little support structure (CI/CD, refined roadmaps, etc), but you've seen what that looks like and you want to help build it.
- You're a product-driven engineer. You're comfortable and eager to meet customers and develop an empathetic understanding of their problems to ensure we're building the right solutions with a delightful user experience.
Your skills and experience
- 4+ years of full-stack dev experience. If necessary, you have the skills to single-handedly take a concept from zero to launch (backend, frontend, data, infra, etc)
- 2+ years of experience working with React
- 2+ years of experience working with Node.js
Bonus points
- Startup experience, or experience thriving in an unstructured, ambiguous environment
- Experience developing add-ins for Microsoft Office / Google Workspace products
- Experience with a B2B SaaS product or building tools for Finance teams
- Have led a team and/or have mentored junior team member
Current stack
JavaScript, React, Node.js, MongoDB, BigQuery. We like to keep our stack simple, but we are open to fresh ideas that can help us move faster.
