The Big Opportunity

• Distributor: Despite major investments by HVAC distributors, the vast majority of HVAC purchases involve an in-person transaction at a physical location. E-commerce is rarely used, and contractors often use cryptic Excel files to price 5-figure jobs.
• Contractors: Over 90% of the 111k contractors in the $50B /yr US HVAC services & systems market are small businesses. These contractors lack the staff to manage software tools, leaving them reliant on handwritten quotes or generic quoting tools without any of the inputs they need.
• Consumers: These same contractors also struggle to identify rebate eligibility that could reduce system cost for higher-efficiency systems and heat pumps.
• The Solution: Traditional e-commerce doesn’t serve the needs of the multi-step (manufacturer to distributor to contractor to homeowner) sales process within HVAC and other similar businesses. Onsite is building the integrated catalog, sales suite, and e-commerce experience that will change how distributors and contractors transact.

Our Current Product

Onsite is revolutionizing digital selling within HVAC with two complementary products:

• The first truly digital catalog: Getting pricing and product details to contractors has traditionally been done in static Excel or PDFs that often go into the hundreds of pages and become outdated constantly with fluctuating availability. Distributors use Onsite to provide a web-based pricebook with instant updates & live availability.
• Integrated sales suite: Onsite makes contractor proposal creation as simple as checking out of e-commerce at their HVAC equipment vendor. Onsite’s platform allows contractors of any size to create professional in-home proposals with no setup or upkeep. We do this by equipping HVAC distributors (who sell HVAC equipment to contractors) with digital catalogs preloaded with pricing, product details, and templates that allow contractors to create a professional proposal in under 10 minutes and sell in-person.

Leadership & Investors

Onsite’s founders have both successfully built businesses helping front-line workers adopt technology. Prior to founding Onsite, Gautam (CEO) was the founder of Rickshaw (YC W14) a logistics startup that was acquired by DoorDash. Gautam has founded 3 YC companies and he brings experience from engineering teams at leading tech companies like Amazon & Dropbox. Jamie (COO) was the first business hire and GM at Mason (YC W16) where his team deployed thousands of connected devices across medical & industrial applications. More recently, he launched the delivery program at MOD Pizza across 10,000+ store employees, taking it from a pilot to over $100m in annual revenue.

Role Detail

Modernize commerce for the skilled trades by joining as the first engineering hire at Onsite Pro (YC S21)!

Join our engineering team, led by Gautam (CEO who still writes a lot of code).  As our Senior Fullstack Engineer, you'll have an out-sized impact with plenty of room for career growth as our startup expands.  You'll define and build products that empower people from diverse backgrounds to get into green jobs and decarbonize our economy.

Onsite Pro doesn’t have any product managers or designers. We talk to HVAC contractors and distributors directly to improve our product; we’re counting on you to do the same. You’ll write all the code for elegant interfaces for web and mobile, end-to-end. You’ll need product sense to figure out what code is important to write, and you’ll need to ship elegant-if-not-pretty products independently. Bonus points if they are pretty :)

Responsibilities

• Software Product Development: Architect, develop, and maintain our web and mobile apps.  Manage all parts of the software lifecycle for projects you’re working on, acting as your own project manager / product manager / designer when needed. Our web stack is React/NextJS/Vercel. You’ll work to evolve the stack as needed to build our mobile apps.
• Fullstack Web Domain Expertise: You are an expert all across the stack of a typical web app. You’ll own our NextJS/React stack. You don’t need to know the specific languages and frameworks we use, as long as you can learn them quickly.
• Engineering Leadership: Make us better at writing code by implementing processes to balance speed and quality, with an eye toward growing the team. You’ll own QA and we can help.
• Communicating Externally: Make the product better by talking to our customers. Learn and share our company values by educating yourself about HVAC.
• Collaboration: Work closely with the CEO and COO to set and execute upon the product roadmap.

Need to Have

• Experience as the lead engineer bringing a software product to market 
• Ability to build a web application entirely on your own if you needed to
• Experience in more than one programming language
• Experience talking to users while setting an engineering roadmap
• Strong references from people who you’ve written code with
• Passion around the skilled trades and / or addressing climate change

Nice to Have

• Computer Science degree
• 4+ years of full stack software engineering experience on live products.
• 1+ year of experience launching native mobile apps on shared web infrastructure.
• 1+ year of experience as a tech lead or engineering manager. Desire to give/receive mentorship to/from other engineers.
