The idea is simple: messaging today is painfully fragmented. We're going to fix that.
Every time we communicate there is friction lurking under the surface. E.g. Which app did I message her on? Where's that photo gone? Why can't I join an iMessage group from my Android? Why do I have 8 chat apps installed on my phone? Our mission is to eliminate that friction and boost the efficiency of the entire human race
That's the long goal. Today, we're building the best darn chat app in the world. We've raised money and we're hiring.
I previously founded the smartwatch company Pebble, which sold to Fitbit in 2016. I spent the last 4 years as a partner at Y Combinator. My cofounder at Beeper is Brad Murray, my good friend of 15 years and first employee at Pebble.
Our desktop app is React + Electron. It's a fork of the Matrix project element-web. We have 2 React engineers, looking for a senior (3-5+ years experience) React engineer to join the team.
We are a fully remote team of 10+. Our timezones are EET to PT, but vast majority of work is asynchronous. Two 1-hour meetings per week. Everyone talks to users over chat. We open source almost our entire backend, at gitlab.com/beeper. Our clients are closed source (for now). Our business model is simple: we charge $10 per month for access to Beeper. We have tens of thousands of people on our waitlist.
If you are passionate about chat, please send me a message!
