Culture Biosciences is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer who is excited to help us grow our engineering team, manage key projects, and mentor junior members of the team.
Our customers develop transformative bioproducts. We develop technology that helps them accelerate their manufacturing and path to market. Our cloud bioreactor facility allows biotechnology companies to design, run, and analyze high-throughput bioreactor experiments for microbial and mammalian cell culture through our web application. Our cloud bioreactor facility is made possible by custom software and automation technology that our team develops. The automated infrastructure is also more efficient to operate than traditional equipment. Our software also provides quick and simple data analysis, enabling customers to analyze reams of data quickly.
What you'll do:
Your focus will be on designing, building, installing, and testing new bioreactors. You will be the most experienced Electrical engineer on the team and you will be responsible for building and delivering large parts of our hardware roadmap.
- Help define our hardware engineering culture.
- Lead the electrical & embedded systems design of new bioreactors.
- Write embedded code to control actuators and read sensors.
- Design and install custom robotic automation systems
- Learn about fermentation, cell culture, and biomanufacturing
In return, we will support you by:
- Placing a high degree of trust in your ideas and execution.
- Bringing you up to speed in the domain of biomanufacturing.
- Providing a low-stress work environment.
- Making ourselves available for collaboration.
- Caring about you as a whole person, not a “resource”.
Projects on our horizon:
- Building new electrical components of existing, installed bioreactors to improve quality and robustness.
- Collaborating with mechanical engineers to design and build new types & sizes of bioreactors.
- Developing new lab automation systems, such as auto-sampling systems and shake flask monitoring, that improve the quality & efficiency of our operations.
About you:
- You have at least 6 years of work experience designing, building, and testing electronics.
- You’re proactive and a self-starter
- You’re kind, curious, and enjoy learning new things.
- You value communication and connection on a multidisciplinary team
- You care that you’re building something that solves a problem and helps end-users
- You are highly proficient in at least one EDA platform (e.g. Altium, EAGLE).
- You are comfortable working with PCB fabrication and assembly manufacturers.
- You are familiar with best practices for mixed-signal design, EMI, and power supply design.
- You are comfortable working with common embedded communication protocols (e.g. SPI, I2C, and RS232).
- You have experience working with sensors (e.g. optical sensors, encoders, and scales).
- You have experience working with actuation (e.g. motors, linear rail, robotic arms).
- You’re not a pure software engineer, but you’re able to write embedded software like device drivers (mostly in C/C++) and you’re familiarly working with git and CI/CD.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or Mechatronics or a related field. If you have a Ph.D., only 3 years of work experience are required to be eligible for this role.
Benefits include:
- Competitive salary and equity compensation
- Medical (PPO), Dental, Vision, and Life insurance
- 401(k) plan with company match
- Paid time off and 10 days of company holidays, including a winter break
- 12 weeks of parental leave at full salary
- Access to on-site child care facility, subject to availability
- Free onsite breakfast, lunch, snacks, coffee, and gym
- Support for relevant educational opportunities
Note: Culture Biosciences team members are working from home whenever possible as we do our part to slow the spread of COVID-19. As this changes and we can bring more staff back to the premises, this role will be full time on site in our South San Francisco office.
Culture Biosciences provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants. We seek to build a company that promotes inclusion and expands the diversity of our industry as a whole. We encourage people with identities underrepresented in biotech to apply.
