Role
We've built Tandem in Electron / React, with Elixir for our back-end, and a custom audio-video transport layer using WebRTC. To get the performance and flexibility our users demand, we are building out native desktop apps. As one of our first engineers, you will:
- Own large sectors of the codebase, and cover a wide variety of projects.
- Translate Figma designs and prototypes into beautiful and functional UI.
- Work with Electron on Windows, Mac, and Linux in Typescript and C++
- Work with React Native and native code on Android and iOS
- Build, ship, and analyze features to test new hypotheses about human interaction and collaboration.
- Shape our product direction by participating in UX interviews, roadmap planning, and feature brainstorms.
- Help us grow the team by interviewing and coaching new hires.
Life at Tandem
Though it might seem at odds with our mission, most days we work together out of a sunny loft in SF near 4th and King. We have a second office in Mountain View. Of course, right now we are all WFH due to COVID19.
The physical space is crucial to our design process, as it allows us to experiment constantly with different office layouts. Through iteration, we explore space, sound, presence, communication friction, social friction, and many other dimensions of collaboration.
And of course, we work remotely at least one day a week, which lets us compare and contrast our flow with days when we're together.
