Why does Optic needs a backend engineer? -- In January we launched our first paid product, built on top of the open source tool. We quickly signed large teams, and are working to deliver on the new feature sets needed to use Optic at scale. A lot of this work is on the backend. You'll be working on the paid product with important responsibilities that advance the business.
At Optic, we help developers collaborate at scale and build better APIs. Our open source tools make adopting OpenAPI and API-first practices easy. Optic makes it easy for developers to document their API changes, review each other’s API changes during code review, and catch breaking changes before they reach production.
tl;dr It’s version control but for behavior not code. We are taking the really successful ideas from Git / Code Review / CI and applying them to API descriptions and (future) other non-code artifacts.
Backend Engineering
Optic is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to design and build the backend that will power our SaaS offering. You'll be a core member of the Engineering team and as such, you'll enjoy a large amount of freedom to design and implement things the way you want. We're a team of seasoned product and infrastructure engineers looking to round out our skillset as we turn towards building our SaaS product. Ideally, you've been a part of something similar before and are excited to do it again your way.
Our ideal candidate is someone who takes ownership of our backend, leads projects end-to-end, and helps drive the product strategy. We are looking someone who is excited about our vision, and eager to make important contributions at this early stage. Our current stack is predominantly Typescript with some Rust and internal tools written in Go. We're running on AWS (our apps are containerized on EKS) and we manage our infrastructure with Terraform. This is what we use today, not necessarily what we'll use tomorrow.
