Talyn is pursuing a vision to reshape aerial transportation. We are developing long-range electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft for passengers and cargo. Talyn’s architecture achieves significant payload, range, and speed benefits over competitors. We achieve this by using our staged aircraft architecture which includes a very efficient electric fixed wing aircraft that can be released and caught mid-air with our separable VTOL vehicle. An animation of the system can be seen at www.talyn.com.

We are currently flying subscale prototypes and look forward to tackling the hard challenge of making mid-air separation and docking of aircraft a reliable reality by building a team of dedicated experts to help enable its success across multiple market segments. This position will be focused on the design, build, and test of our next prototypes, multi-hundred-pound aircraft, and future iterations.

Responsibilities • Ownership of the selection, design, test, connection, and integration of the avionics along with their hardware/software interfaces for Talyn’s current subscale aircraft and future aircraft designs.
• Requirements generation, component selection, prototyping, test/qualification, and ultimately the build and performance on the flight vehicles. • As Talyn is a startup, you will be expected to wear many hats, get your hands dirty with the hardware, and make critical design and business decisions.

Basic Qualifications • Self-starter with high accountability suited to work in a dynamic startup atmosphere • Ability to quickly learn new skills as required to solve problems • Strong understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals for use in power and communication link budgets, data/bandwidth sizing, and electrical connectivity/integration • Ability to clearly communicate complex technical issues and risks to a broad audience • Ability to foster and maintain a positive and enjoyable working environment for themselves and the team • Must be willing to work full time on-site with the team in Los Angeles, CA

Preferred Experience • Experience running system level architectural trades • Demonstrated experience with the design, testing, and implementation of complex electrical vehicle or industrial robotics systems and associated hardware from concept to production • Familiarity with power systems sizing and budgets • Familiarity with integration constraints around packaging, harnessing, structural, thermal, and electromagnetic interference • Familiarity with vehicle communication protocols (Ethernet, CAN, 1553, ARINC, FlexRAY, LIN, Modbus, etc.) as well as diagnostic tools used for troubleshooting vehicle busses.

To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
