Senior Application Engineer

JITX is transforming hardware design by letting electrical engineers write code to design electronics. Application Engineer: Electrical Engineering

We are seeking an innovative Application Engineer with a background in Electrical Engineering to serve as a technical bridge between our product and our customers. A critical role in our team, it is equally important to hit the ground running.  You will come equipped with deep knowledge of circuit boards.  You will learn JITX and our programming language, Stanza, quickly to bring customers into the activation phase.  

This role may be customer facing, creates engaging demonstrations, tracks feedback to our Product Manager, and contributes to our documentation library.  Documentation maintenance looks like taking input from customer success and creating examples to respond to questions or feedback.  You will be a single person responsible for making sure documents are updated with new features.   A successful candidate will be flexible to the needs of our organization, while technically proficient, and excellent communication skills.

You would use JITX to build new and exciting examples of design, craft content and onboard our new customers  -- showing off the power of using a programming language for hardware design. Expect projects like creating small to complex designs as quickly as possible, generating analog circuits for signal processing, scripting microvia BGA fanouts. You will build starting examples of designs and build documentation around these to assist users where stuck or consistent feedback.  You’ll partner with internal and external expert electrical engineers - we want you to be coding focused but have some basic experience designing your own electronics. 

This role is anticipated to be a Mid- Senior Level Individual Contributor candidate hire showcasing multiple years of industry experience additional to academic. Eligible candidates would be able to speak through a project that they took from start to finish in areas of a motor controller, FPGA board, board using a Jetson or similar SoM as examples of their work.

Preference to local Bay Area candidates will be given. This candidate will be expected to be local (or relocated from another state within the USA).

Summary of Responsibilities and Qualifications

• Provide comprehensive technical support to customers, including answering questions.  Create examples to illustrate usage of features.

• Participate in building customer demos, helping to identify bottlenecks as we scale.

• Design small to complex design project examples that can be documented, with user feedback.

• Own the documentation process, ensuring deep product knowledge is reflected through clear, helpful, and accurate documentation.  Updates are timely with new features. 

• Collaborate with Customer Success to update documentation based on customer feedback, with relevant examples and instructions.  Ideal documentation intends that as we build our product that guidance through trial becomes hands off.

• Maintain responsibility for documentation reflecting product enhancements.  Updates with new features and  common questions are served.   Contribute to application engineering efforts by building and documenting starting examples to the JITX standard library.

• Partner with Customer Success in ensuring that trial users are getting the most out of their tool.  Activation means that they have applied a real project and navigated features and integration smoothly. 

• A pivotal role in shaping the interaction between JITX and our users.  Serve as the primary technical point of contact for users. Provide a hands-on, white glove experience with new customers as they go through the trial and become a user.  Maintaining contact, ensuring continued activation.

• Mission Driven:  Genuine excitement in our mission and what we are doing.  Knowing the capabilities of JITX and how it can be applied to a customer workflow will be your metric to success.

• Documentation and Content Accuracy: This role will become the single point of contact representing the integrity of new features and that documentation is up to date.  Build and document starting examples, expanding and maintaining the JITX standard library of designs.

• Coding Skills:  Wide breadth of experience in software development in your board design,  such as Python, C, C++, firmware, RTL.  While not necessary to be a Git master, you need to understand how to create PRs, push/pull, make commits and be able to craft code scripts.

• Circuit Board Design: Requiring 4+ years of design experience (industry) in circuit board design.  Ability to speak through designs shipped from prototype to production.  

• Experienced at all phases of hardware product engineering including architecture, management, PCB design, schematic, layout, routing, bring up, validation, test, manufacturing, debugging, scripting, software development, firmware, and more.

• Education:  Degree or degrees in Electrical Engineering.

JITX provides an estimate of the salary compensation for roles that may be hired in California (Bay Area) as required by state regulations. Salary compensation for locations other than Bay Area may vary based on (a) location, as JITX factors in specific location when benchmarking compensation for most roles; (b) individual candidate qualifications; and (c) individual candidate experience. Additionally, JITX leverages current market data to determine salary, so posted salary figures are subject to change as new market data becomes available.

JITX Compensation Philosophy 

Salary bands are reflective of two (2) Salary Surveys. JITX follows the 75th percentile based on metros. JITX follows performance based increases based on promotion. Longevity in position will follow the market. JITX follows a performance review process twice a year (Mid Year- February and Annual - August), to keep on par with market data.
